Lunar Living through Eclipse Season 2022
We are in the throes of 2022’s final eclipse season 2022 with two eclipses along the Taurus-Scorpio axis. The solar eclipse occurred three days ago in the northern hemisphere in the sign of Scorpio, the second eclipse is a powerful portal yet to come on November 8th.
Taurus and Scorpio are “opposites” in the Zodiac, finding themselves on opposite poles of the sky. Taurus craves stability, taking its time, really indulging the senses in beauty and pleasures like sensual textures, art and delicious food. A Taurus is usually happy in a luxurious environment, being fully present to their sensory world, and there’s usually 5-star food in the mix!
Scorpio craves intensity, depth, control and complexity. Scorpios are highly sensitive and have a gift for transformation and supporting processes that involve a literal or figurative death or birth. They rule the underworld, shadows, secrets and mysteries. They’re usually happiest when in charge of a transformative process, or in bed (not necessarily a literal bed) with an adventurous partner.
I’ve been following the cycles of the moon and the Zodiac for several years, and I started noticing a pattern of emotion, events and thoughts emerging that would usually relate in some way to the patterns reflected in the sky. For example, lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to create/birth something new in my career (Scorpio urging me to take control of my destiny and push boundaries). And, I’m also feeling some discomfort around leaving my comfortable, steady flow of what’s familiar (cue Taurus happily curled up in a silky blanket, enjoying a good book with a glass of wine). You might also notice some internal or external polarities in your life right now. This is the eclipse energy. It’s disruptive, and meant to be.
Why do I mention this? I find it useful to use the energetic patterns that flow with the transitions in the sky to remind me to take time to release what no longer serves and intentionally call in things I’d like to manifest. For me, the New Moon reminds me to be clear in my intention around what I’m creating, and to notice where in my life I’m at a beginning point. Or to remind me to be in “beginner’s mind”, or the creative void where new ideas and possibilities are born. At the Full Moon, I’m reminded to acknowledge what’s come into my consciousness or life recently, to celebrate what’s good and to offer a release of what no longer serves. I can plant a seed of intention and attend its germination until the New Moon returns and the cycle begins again. Attending to these cycles reminds me to be in flow, to pause and reflect, and flow again. It helps me stay aligned with my values, to honour both cycles of work/play and rest/restore.
The disruptive quality of the eclipses can enhance the effects of the lunar cycle. The eclipses give a power boost to the natural support for letting go and birthing anew. This is a powerful time to set intentions, to connect to what no longer serves so you can let it go, and call in your dreams! You can let go anytime, and call in anytime, and support this with ritual action to support integration. I like to say my intentions aloud or draw/write them down, burn flying wish papers, or use dissolving paper in a ritual vessel. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, you can find a way that feels right or fun for you!
